Youth Summit, February 1, 2008

On Friday, February 1st ,100
students and their advisors gathered at the Red Lion Hotel in
Pasco for a day of anti-tobacco fun and learning.
Key note speaker James Warren, a self labeled Youth Motivator
from the state of New York, kicked off the event with a powerful presentation.
Warren combined his talents in mentalism and magic, with his
passion to share a youth oriented anti-tobacco message, to
complete a very unique show. Students were amazed as Warrens
head grew to the size of a large balloon and his ability to
memorize a deck of cards in less than 45 seconds. While creating
illusions as entertainment for the audience, Warren explained
that tobacco companies also create illusions as a way to entice new
smokers.
Students had the opportunity to attend
additional workshops during the day, on topics such as chew tobacco,
working together with adults, media literacy, tobacco companies'
lies and schemes, and public speaking. The day was a huge
success and youth are still talking about the amazing things
they saw and learned!
