Tobacco Free Benton-Franklin Counties in partnership with the
Washington State Liquor Control Board work to educate and
enforce the Minors’ Access to Tobacco Law. Through youth
volunteers, retail stores that sell tobacco are checked to make
sure they are not selling tobacco to minors. Those retail stores
that are found selling tobacco to minors are cited and fined
(based on Washington Sate Law):
1st
Offense: $100
2nd Offense: $300
3rd Offense: $1,000 and six month license suspension
4th Offense: $1,500 and 12 month license suspension.
The clerk can also be fined for selling tobacco to a minor:
1st Offence: $50
Each subsequent offense (within a two year period): $100
